My father passed away this summer on June 18th just a little before his 85th birthday. Which is the day we choose to celebrate his life— July 24th. While looking for photos to share for his memorial, I came across a sketchbook my father had passed along to me. Inside were drawings of my mother holding me as a baby and tucked between the pages was a poster he had drawn for my nursery school’s Christmas Bazaar.
My father began his career as a cartoonist. He enjoyed a little residual fame in his later years for his brief turn as a ghost artist for Batman from 1947-1953. At the same time our local paper ran his comic strip featuring none other than my mother and me.
Done in 1954, I love how my dad drew with his brush. Truly a lost art!
And finally, a drawing I did of my dad two years ago.
